Snoop Dogg saw something special in Jooba Loc. Maybe the hungry young rapper from Long Beach, Calif., reminded him of himself back when he was first getting on with Dr. Dre in 1992. They’d both grown up in the LBC gang life, spent time behind bars, and re-focused their energy on music. For the return of his Doggystyle Records, Snoop signed Jooba to be part of the label’s new era.

This May, on the heels of his standout contribution to the 2015 LBC Movement mixtape Beach City, Jooba dropped his debut album, Only Way Out, which features guest appearances from Snoop, YG, and Daz Dillinger, as well as production from Cardo and DJ Mustard. His gritty West Coast gangster rap is accompanied by an upcoming biopic of the same name that adds visuals to the tales he tells.

On this episode of GGN, Jooba joins his mentor to talk about super powers, the feeling he got when he first heard his music bumping in an unexpected place, his biopic, the characteristics artists need to succeed, and more. As a bonus, the episode includes the music video for “Fall Bacc,” Jooba’s single with Snoop.
