America’s pastime has an image problem. While the NFL and NBA continue to make headlines thanks to social activism from their biggest superstars, Major League Baseball has become the odd man out, with only a few marquee names and a rapidly again fanbase. So what can MLB do to grab more viewers away from Kevin Durant and Tom Brady? In Pittsburgh, where the hometown Pirates have already been mathematically eliminated from even the playoff race, there's only one answer - you invite Wiz Khalifa to throw the first pitch.

On Wednesday night, the Pirates played their final home game of the season, and Pittsburgh’s most successful rapper took the mound to rile up the crowd. Knowing Wiz, though, the cannabis-obsessed artist wouldn’t let the opportunity pass without a little additional flare, and he did not disappoint in the least.

Donning a white t-shirt with the words “LEGALIZE IT” proudly printed in green block letters across his chest, Wiz toed the rubber, waved to the stands and, in true pothead fashion, pantomimed taking a long, deep hit off of a joint and passed it to the crowd before finally getting around to throwing the baseball.

Not one to be shy about his love for greenery, Wiz didn’t just stop there. While he was enjoying the rest of the game from a luxury box high behind home plate, Wiz posted a selfie video hitting a vape pen full of Khalifa Kush, blowing clouds of KK into the seventh inning stretch.

Of course, baseball can be a serious buzzkill, and once Major League Baseball got wind of the pregame antics, they immediately apologized for the impromptu 420-friendly pregame show.

“Marijuana is a prohibited substance in all of our drug programs. It’s unfortunate this situation occurred,” Major League Baseball said in a statement to the Pittsburgh Tribune. “The Pirates have informed us that this should not have happened.”

If baseball really wants to start bringing in new faces to ballparks, and shed their white-haired old man image, they should think about bringing artists like Wiz into the fold more often. After all, it’s common knowledge that the players are getting high, so why not make America’s pastime a little more welcoming to fans who like to light up, too?
