An impending call for sustainably grown cannabis is coming. As reported by Take Part, a new study shows that marijuana plants may be sucking up the majority of the water in the state. The study states, “The environmental impacts associated with marijuana cultivation appear substantial, yet have been difficult to quantify, in part because cultivation is clandestine and often occurs on private property.” The loss of water in various areas around the state results in the decline of populations of salmon and steelhead trout as well as other “sensitive amphibian species.” The question therefore falls to the growers to look for a sustainable way to grow cannabis. It’s a matter of urgency for growers to go green to grow green.
