Wine zealots know that to truly appreciate good wine, drinks should be paired with appropriate and specific types of foods. Now, wine sommeliers are looking at what wine and weed pairings would be best. Different strains, like wines, have different flavors and aromas, giving sommeliers plenty to work with for suggestions of what to pair with wine or beer.

Paul Yanon, a sommelier at Mulderbosch Vineyards said: “We (sommeliers) are good at our jobs because of how many different wines we try and are always looking to complement the flavors we find in different varietals with food. With so many new strains, it’s really the next logical step to start incorporating into the culinary culture.”

Already, marijuana experts are beginning to help put together the pieces of which strains would best be paired with what flavors. “The herbal notes of a sauvignon blanc go well with a citrusy strain, such as Amnesia Haze, while the full bodied nature of a cabernet red wine blends with a similarly hearty strain of weed like purple kush.”
