August 6 marks the 55th anniversary of Jamaica breaking free from the United Kingdom’s colonial rule. To honor the occasion, we are proud to bring you MERRY JANE Presents Jamaica Week. All week leading up to Jamaican Independence Day, MERRY JANE is celebrating the Jamaican people and the many great things that the island has given to the world — from music, dance, and food, to the Rastafarian religion, cannabis culture, and good vibes.

Did you know that Jamaicans love KFC? Like, so much so that McDonald’s couldn’t compete and failed to take root on the island? It’s true. The people of Jam Rock are big fans of the Colonel’s chicken, but according to them the recipe is slightly different — and better — in JA than it is anywhere else on this poultry-loving planet.

To understand where this belief and Jamaicans’ KFC devotion comes from, prolific veteran dancehall star Mr. Lexx hit the streets of his Kingston hometown to vibe with the masses and chat about chicken.

Watch the video for hot takes on spices, silicone chicken breasts, and more!
