There’s no denying that the Nike SB team is an unbelievable behemoth of talent. In the case of the newly released “Loud Pack” edit, however, there seems to be a very dynamic and particular synergy between three of the squad’s most versatile riders, Ishod Wair, Grant Taylor, and Cory Kennedy, by way of transition skateboarding.
The trio is insanely good at taking the horizontal steez of street skating out to the very dangerous edge of vertical, transition skateboarding. Thus, a trip to the concrete parks and bowls of Idaho and Montana was natural terrain for some ungodly speeds and high-flying action.
Tuned to the pitched-down sounds of Outkast’s “Me And You” and NEU!’s “Lila Engel”, the video is a combination of eerie brooding and intense adrenaline. One second you’re watching cuts of tiny and aloof, scooter kids buzzing around the skatepark, while the next second, Grant Taylor’s flying over Ishod, avoiding contact with him by nearly an inch. There’s obvious art in the shock value, a method to the trippy madness, if you will.
As per the name “Loud Pack” is an intentional, minimalist high that focuses on the magic of transitional risk and spontaneity. Street skating is its own beloved beast, but surely concrete and vert beg for more attention from those daring and skilled enough to commit.
