This past October 12th, skateboarding lost one of it’s finest when 28 year old Dylan Rieder succumbed to leukemia following a tough 2 year battle. Universally adored for his style, energy and unreal abilities, his death has hit the skateboard community very hard.
To help cope with the loss, Jenkem has shared an edit by Joey Sinko (who also worked on the Jim Greco’s excellent The Way Out short) , “An Ode to Dylan Rieder.” The ode chronicles Dylan’s best footage, from the Quiksilver/Osiris sponsored days of his youth through his Supreme / HUF / Fucking Awesome #teamhandsome onslaught.
Soundtracked by the melancholic sounds of Roger Waters and Warren Zevon, this trip down memory lane is bound to make those familiar with the impact he had on skateboarding shed a tear or two, or perhaps as is inked on Dylan’s hand, smile.
In lieu of sending flowers, Dylan’s family requests donations be made in his memory to Dr. Stephen Forman. Please address checks to; City of Hope, in memo line: to Dr. Stephen Forman for Dylan Rieder.
