Could there be science behind why women smoke together?

There exists a phenomenon in the stoner woman community that we shall call the “never-ending-bowl” effect.

Perhaps you’ve experienced it yourself. It begins with a bowl like any other, no larger or smaller, but this time the green is being passed amongst only women. Whereas normally, the bowl would be cashed in a few rounds, this time the pipe seems to last and last and last. Before you know it, you’re completely stoned, and yet the pipe is still going!

If you’ve ever experienced the sensation of getting higher when smoking with women, you’re not alone. Many women attest to experiencing the never-ending-bowl effect, and as it turns out, there is a scientific explanation for this seemingly common phenomenon.

What it comes down to is a simple matter of anatomy. Studies have found that on average, men have a larger lung capacity than women. In fact, lung volume and capacity is approximately 25% larger in men than in women. That is quite a significant number! To extrapolate on this research suggests that on average, men can consume 25% more cannabis per hit, than women.

To be clear, this holds true for both cisgender and transgender women, since hormone replacement therapy decreases muscle tone and thus reduces lung capacity in transwomen. Smoking with women therefore will almost always mean there will be more green to go around.

With this information in hand, it is easy to see why women who toke together get more stoned together. Ultimately, when a man is present for a smoke sesh, he is likely consuming a larger quantity. Thus the weed is smoked faster, the bowl finished more quickly, and the women present receive less puffs.

Now, this isn’t to say there’s a downside to smoking with men. Weed is a communal herb, and there is always joy in sharing with friends, family, and lovers. But for those who take a certain special delight in lighting up with women friends, the never-ending-bowl effect is a perfectly valid reason to feel giddy.
