Long time face of all things marijuana related, it seems as though Tommy Chong's time in the green spotlight may soon be over. In attempt to distance themselves from the cultural stereotypes of stoners, Chong has been dropped as an activist by lobbyists who want to adopt a more serious image in front of Congress. The National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) no longer wishes to associate with Chong, known for his role as one half of the duo Cheech & Chong, as their public representative.

“Having Tommy out in DC for the NCIA Lobby Days will detract from the overall message we aim for with the event, which is that cannabis business people are regular professionals and relatable to the generally conservative members of Congress we are looking to appeal to,” NCIA Executive Director Aaron Smith said. “We are here to break ‘stoner’ stereotypes rather than reinforce them.”
