A few short years ago, the future looked grim for Torrence “Boosie Badazz” Hatch. In 2012, while the rapper from Baton Rouge, La., was serving an eight-year sentence on drug charges, he stared down a first-degree murder charge that could have landed him on death row if convicted. A jury found him not guilty that May and Boosie’s lawyers subsequently managed to get him released early on the drug charges, allowing him to get back to his family and making music.
Since his release on March 5, 2014, Boosie has been on a tear, releasing seven mixtapes, his sixth solo album, Touch Down 2 Cause Hell, the record label compilation Trill Entertainment Presents: Trill Fam – Respect Is a Must, and a collaboration album with C-Murder, Penitentiary Chances. More important, he beat kidney cancer after doctors diagnosed him in November 2015.
With his next solo album, Boosie Badazz: Bigger and Badder Than Ever, due out later this year, the 32-year-old stopped by GGN to chop it up with the big homie Snoop Dogg. Boosie remains on parole until 2018, so there’s no smoking, but the two stars discussed his defining relationship with Pimp C, suspect marijuana laws, business lessons, cancer, fatherhood, eye-popping gold chains, and much more.
