Method Man has had a solid set of role models his entire life. The Wu-Tang Clan’s most smoked out member has been putting out hits and transcending cultural boundaries since Enter the 36 Chambers debuted in 1993. Now, Johnny Blaze is starting a new path, as the host of TBS’ upcoming Drop the Mic, a televised celebrity battle-rap competition based on skits by late night host James Corden. And yet, despite his continued and growing mainstream success, Meth has never shied away from his love for ganja and the kind bud’s instrumental place in his success.

“I could have went in any direction that life took me, but I chose to hang around guys that liked to rap and smoke marijuana. But, you know, it’s gotten me to where I am now. So I guess I was lucky.” Meth told reporters from Eurweb at a press gala promoting Drop the Mic.

The hosting gig is far from Method Man’s first time in front of the camera, with starring roles in movies like How High and too many supporting credits to count, on the small and big screen. So how has the prolific rapper managed to keep all of his careers afloat at once? With a little example from everyone’s favorite uncle, of course.

“For me, transitioning between TV and — it’s all entertainment. So I don’t think there’s any line drawn that I can’t cross and still do me. I mean, Snoop Dogg does everything, everything, you know. It’s like you can’t even identify Snoop as a rapper anymore.”

It’s not hard to see the career comparison between the two legendary emcees, with both releasing classic rap albums and stoner comedies, countless outside business ventures and TV hosting gigs, it’s no wonder Meth considers the Doggfather a worthy peer.

Drop the Mic will debut on TBS in the fall, but don’t expect Snoop to make a quick cameo, Method Man has been clear about the more, shall we say, amateur musicians the show is looking to showcase.

“The guests that we bring on, not all of them are in music.” Meth said. “We have actors. Hell, we may even get an astronaut on there, you know, to get up there and spit if he’s got the guts to do it.”
