Just one week after a Chicago cop was arrested for child sex trafficking, a Texas school cop has been arrested for sexually assaulting at least one child at the school where he was employed. Galveston Independent School District officer Victor Lee Cervantes was arrested this Wednesday and charged with sexual assault of a child, two counts of improper relationship between an educator and student, and online solicitation of a minor.

Cervantes engaged in sexual acts with at least one underage girl on a number of occasions, according to police. He also allegedly sent sexually explicit text messages to another child. Other Galveston ISD officers reported Cervantes to their supervisors after taking notice of his behavior. Cervantes has now resigned from his job and is being held on a bond of $35,000.

“We take this matter very seriously, and we are deeply concerned that it appears something of this nature and this seriousness has happened at one of our schools and to one of our students,” school superintendent Kelli Moulton said in a statement.

Cervantes is not the only school cop who has been caught abusing the students he was employed to protect. Earlier this year, school cops in Baltimore and San Antonio were caught on video beating and body-slamming young, unarmed students. In 2013, a school cop was convicted for repeatedly raping 22 boys at a middle school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
