DeepCell Industries, maker of cannabis-infused sugar Ruby, has signed a deal with a California medical marijuana company to manufacture and distribute what it calls “the world's first Flexible Edible cannabis product” throughout Southern California this year.

The Seattle-based company makes Ruby Cannabis Sugar by using their patent-pending “Crystal Fusion” technology to fuse cannabinoids with sugar. Ruby can be used in place of sugar, and is “discreet, easy to dose, flavor neutral, and doesn’t require any refrigeration, equipment or pens.”

Ruby kicked off in the medical marijuana market in Washington before making inroads into the recreational market, and is now planning on expanding on that success and bringing their sweetly potent products to California.

 DeepCell's deal with Palm Springs-based PSA Organica will put Ruby in 20 Southern California dispensaries to start, but DeepCell CEO Kelly Ogilvie intends to expand that figure to 750 stores within the first six to nine months of sales.

“We are preparing for the long game,” Ogilvie said. “California's GDP is bigger than most countries' GDP. It is going to be the biggest market for cannabis in human history.”

The company is also in talks to find a licensing partner to service Northern California, but no deal has been finalized at this time.
