On what would have been his 58th birthday, the world still mourns the loss of Prince, one of the greatest artists in history.

Minnesota’s Governor, Mark Dayton, has issued a statement declaring June 7th Prince Day and all residents are encouraged to wear purple “in honor of the Purple One’s enduring legacy.”

The proclamation was issued within the PRINCE Act (Personal Rights in Names Can Endure), which was consequently pulled from the state’s legislature. It stated, “Prince was the creator of ‘The Minneapolis Sound,’ a contribution not only to the global catalogue of music genres, but to Minnesota’s worldwide prominence and its economic growth.”

For those of us who do not reside in Minnesota and reflect on the accomplishments of our heroes by taking a toke, we can take this day as an opportunity to reflect on a man who transcended musical genres and spoke to us through his astonishing song writing skills and flawless guitar work.

On this Prince Day, let us reminisce the legend in our own way. Soak in the sweet sounds of Purple Rain with a Purple Haze or pick an aromatic Granddaddy Purp and go Around the World in a Day. Push the volume limits of Dirty Mind while passing some Purple Kush, pair Grape Ape with The Gold Experience, or bask in some Blackberry Kush while blasting the unforgettable The B-Sides.

No matter how you choose to pay homage to his breathtaking genius, be creative and party like it’s 1999. The late Prince Rogers Nelson would not have wanted it any other way.

“I was dreamin’ when I wrote this, so sue me if I go 2 fast. But life is just a party, and parties weren’t meant 2 last. War is all around us; my mind says prepare 2 fight. So if I gotta die I’m gonna listen 2 my body tonight.” - Prince “1999”
