Governor Nathan Deal of Georgia has signed a bill into law that legalizes the use of medical cannabis oil to treat 8 medical conditions. The new policy makes Georgia the 36th state, along with the District of Columbia, to allow for the legal use of medicinal cannabis extracts for the treatment of illnesses. The law grants citizens the right to treat individuals diagnosed with epilepsy, cancer, ALS, multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, mitochondrial disease, Parkinson's disease and sickle cell anemia with clinically prescribed cannabis oils.
This is a huge milestone for families and patients who have had to use cannabis oil under an illicit veil to treat their serious medical conditions. Patients are required to obtain documents that grant access to the cannabis extracts before receiving cards from the state. While there are still many hoops to jump through in order to obtain cannabis oils for medicinal purposes, the passage of this bill comes as a great victory for patients and the state of Georgia.
