The DEA’s decision to keep marijuana as a Schedule I drug has not stopped marijuana from being legal in some fashion in most states but to put the leafy plant up there with heroin and meth is far from reality.
The DEA claims that there isn’t enough scientific research to show that the benefits of marijuana outweigh the risk but because marijuana is classified as Schedule I drug there have been no real efforts by the DEA to conduct proper scientific research. Now along with the guidance of the FDA both organizations believe that prescription drugs such as pain killers are the only solution.
