Former Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) has long supported both legalization of marijuana and LGBT equality. Way back in 1972, several decades before many politicians began supporting people’s right to use the plant, he filed legislation to decriminalize marijuana. And after coming out publicly in 1987, he became the first openly gay member of Congress. So, he’s uniquely qualified to weigh in on both rights struggles.

At the DNC in Philadelphia, Frank spoke to MERRY JANE about his concerns for cannabis and drew parallels to the LGBT rights movement and shifting perspectives. Check that out as well as his thoughts on the revenue created by cannabis, the medical vs. recreational debate, and the role that banks play in the growing industry.
