Last night, renowned Cleveland-based rapper Scott Mescudi (better known by his moniker Kid Cudi) posted a heartbreaking letter to his fans on Facebook detailing his debilitating struggle with depression and suicidal urges. Cudi shared that he had checked himself into rehab the previous day, and went on to openly discuss the painful mental quandary that he’s been stuck in throughout his entire life.

In the post, Cudi reassured his fans that new music is still on the way, and that he plans to complete his recovery in time for his scheduled performance at Complexcon on November 5. Although his post resonates with sadness and despair, the letter ended with that genuine Cudi love for his fans. Here’s Mescudi’s full post:

At the start of September, Kid Cudi sent out a series of tweets detailing the upcoming release of a new 18-track double LP entitled Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’. He’s already released two single, “Frequency” and “Surfin’”, both of which were very well received by his fans. The forthcoming album is set to include features from Pharrell Williams, Andre 300, Travis $cott and more.

In between the announcement of the new album and his emotional letter, Cudi took Twitter shots at his longtime colleague and confidant Kanye West, essentially calling him “fake” for collaborating with Drake and claiming that the duo “ain’t fuckin with me”. Kanye responded with a tirade aimed at Cudi during a live performance of “Don’t Like”, but the beef simmered down over the following weeks.

The emotionally charged social media post was followed by endless support from his diehard fans, many of who responded empathetically with Cudi’s mental struggles. To many of his fans, the rapper’s brutally honest lyrics and euphorically catchy “hmms” have helped them get through the roughest of days. And now, as Cudi sets forth on a journey to find happiness and overcome his longtime struggles with depression and anxiety, he can rest assured that his fans will be right behind him every step of the way.
