We kick off this year’s inaugural Deflowered with acclaimed sound engineer Derek “MixedByAli” Ali. Ali honed his craft for several years as Dr. Dre’s protege. Since then, he has recorded and mixed albums for some of hip-hop’s biggest acts, including Kendrick Lamar’s new album To Pimp A Butterfly. In this episode, Ali talks about his first time in the studio with Dr. Dre, and what it felt like to get graded by the legendary artist. He also talks classic stoner flicks, his munchies of choice, and his go-to album to listen to while smoking out.
