Omarion has come a long way since emerging with the boy band B2K in 2002. Now 31, the multitalented entertainer has two young children, a new creative direction, and a new album on the way.

O’s life changed dramatically in August 2014, when his girlfriend, Apryl Jones, gave birth to their son, Megaa Omari. A few months later, his fourth album, Sex Playlist, produced his biggest hit ever, the Chris-Brown-and-Jhené-Aiko-assisted “Post to Be.” The single, which was certified platinum and reached the top 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in 2015, quieted doubters who said his best years were behind him and also elucidated what listeners wanted from him.

After delaying the release of his fifth album, Reasons, to drop the mixtape Care Package 3 in November 2015, Omarion, whose daughter A’mei Kazuko was born in March 2016, is now preparing to release the 15-track follow-up later this year on Maybach Music Group/Atlantic Records.

In anticipation, O did like Seth Rogen, Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, and Khloe Kardashian and dropped by GGN to chop it up with his longtime supporter Snoop Dogg. The two discussed “Post to Be” and Reasons, the effect fatherhood has had on Omarion creatively, how he avoided the industry pitfalls that ruin many artists, the importance of finding his musical-commercial sweet spot, and more.
