Red Hot Chili Peppers Take You on a Wild Ride In “Sick Love” Video

Is Los Angeles hell?
Published on December 6, 2016

While the Red Hot Chili Peppers may no longer be inundating the airwaves on a regular basis a la Californication, they are still putting out quality music. This past June, they released their 9th studio album (and the first in half a decade) The Getaway.

Having previously shared videos for the singles “Dark Necessities” (starring Olivia Wilde) and “Go Robot,” they have just released a wildly trippy animated visual for “Sick Love.”

Directed by singer/songwriter Beth Jean Houghton, the animated video follows an Australian girl’s journey to a hellish version of Los Angeles. Among the highlights, frontman Anthony Kiedis engages in sexual activity with a giant spider, after which he is brutally decapitated. While the overtones of the video are definitely on the drug-induced psychedelia side, it’s safe to say this is no trip we would want to go on.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are no strangers to the themes in the video, as their love for Los Angeles was the subject of one of their biggest hits ever, Blood Sugar Sex Magik’s “Under The Bridge.” Despite the cartoon horrors that take place in “Sick Love,” the lyrics are clear; “this location is my home.” They had also previously gone the animated route in Beavis and Butthead Do America’sLove Rollercaster” track.

Take the trip if you dare here.
