Migos’ “Culture” Is the No. 1 Album in the Nation

At least Atlanta can claim one W for the week.
Published on February 6, 2017

It’s been a rough 24 hours for Atlanta. After three and a half quarters of winning football, the hometown Falcons took an L from Tom Brady and the evil empire, and a single tear ran down the city’s collective cheek.

But for a city that has already recovered from the disappearance of Freaknik and a lengthy Gucci Mane-Young Jeezy beef, we knew it wouldn’t take much time for Atlanta to bounce back.

This morning, that bounce came in the form of the Billboard Album Charts, where hometown heroes Migos secured their spot on top of the world, as Culture, the group’s sophomore album, became the #1 record nationwide.

Culture sold the equivalent of 131,000 records in the first week since it’s release, and, with their mega-hit “Bad & Boujee” killing the singles charts, the North Atlanta ad-lib kings have the number one album and the number one song in America at the same time.

Migos has enjoyed success before – “Versace,” “Fight Night,” and “Pipe it Up” all had very real, and extended, moments of radio and club dominance.  Their debut album Young Rich Nation charted at a respectable #17 on Billboard in 2015, but the success of Culture has been the trio’s highest achievement, and they don’t seem to be fading anytime soon.

We highlighted a radio spot a couple weeks ago where Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff made a hit out of the children’s book LLama, Llama, Red Pajama, but that won’t be the end of Migos’ literary endeavors - the group has also signed on to write a book full of their unique slang and ad-libs.

Who knows, it might not be long until Migos adds a third #1 release and hits the top of the New York Times Best Sellers list.
