We all got hyped to find out that MTV would be giving Kanye West his own four minute slot to do whatever the hell he wanted during the 2016 VMAs.

Not knowing what to expect from the hip hop lord and savior Yeezus, thousands tuned in Sunday to see what Kanye had in store for the world.

Needless to say, he did not disappoint.

First, Kanye hit the stage to give a lengthy speech that touched upon many topics, from his beef with Taylor Swift to his ex-girlfriend Amber Rose, Chicago gun violence to his idols and role models.

In typical Kanye fashion, his speech seemed to flow from his stream of conscious, speaking out in a positive manner about his jumbled thoughts and feelings. He even discussed his controversial music video for the song “Famous”, which was nominated for “Video of the Year”, but ended up losing to Beyonce’s “Formation” video.

“But for people to understand just how blessed we are… It was an expression of our now, our fame right now, us on the inside of the TV. You know, just to put… the audacity to put Anna Wintour right next to Donald Trump. I mean, like, I put Ray J in it, bro. This is fame, bro! Like, I see you Amber. My wife is a G. Not a lot of peoples’ wives would let them say that right there. We came over in the same boat. Now we all in the same bed.

Well, maybe different boats, but uh,” West said about his music video for “Famous” during the speech.

Kanye West's Moment

Although he might have lost the “Video of the Year” award to Queen Bey, Kanye wasted no time in launching another controversial and edgy music video at the VMAs, this time for the highly energized electro-track “Fade”, which was featured on his latest album The Life of Pablo.

After wrapping up his spontaneous speech, Kanye West then premiered the new seductive video, which featured the sultry singer Teyana Taylor dancing exotically around gym equipment . The first three minutes of video essentially depicts a modern spin on the ‘80s film Flashdance, and is then followed by a steamy lovemaking shower scene between Taylor and her husband, Cleveland Cavaliers star Iman Shumpert. The video ends with the couple and their baby surrounded by a flock of sheep, while Taylor suddenly takes on the appearance of wild cat.

All in all, the MTV executives were wise to hand Kanye the reins to this year’s VMAs. The “Fade” music video features an abundance of skin and seductiveness,  something that only someone like Kanye could get away with showing during MTV’s biggest award show. Although his music video and rambling speech is sure to stir up some controversy, the 2016 MTV VMAs serves as proof that when Kanye is talking, the whole world stops to listen. Kanye West’s “Fade” visual is currently streaming exclusively on Tidal.
