Kanye West Remixes The-Dream in Sultry “Bed Yeezy Season 5”

Originally premiered at the Yeezy Season 5 show at New York Fashion Week, the 17-minute interpolation of The-Dream’s “Bed” is now on SoundCloud.

Earlier this month, the outlandish producer, rapper, and fashion aficionado Kanye West launched his Yeezy Season 5 fashion show during New York Fashion Week.

Although there were technically no fresh Kanye tracks debuted at the exclusive event, the show did feature a distinct remix of R&B singer The-Dream’s rendition of J. Holiday’s bedroom banger “Bed”. Yeezy linked up with frequent Life of Pablo collaborators DJDS to turn the soulful love jam into a menacingly sooty soundscape entitled “Bed Yeezy Season 5”

Originally featured on a bootleg 53-track mixtape entitled LoveTape: The Demo’s, The-Dream’s stripped down vocal take is repurposed by Kanye and elongated down a powerfully ominous Yeezus-inspired path. The renowned Chicago producer sprinkles the R&B singer’s harmonized coos over minimalist rumbling.

Towards the middle of the 17-minute mix, the song suddenly transitions into an otherworldly atmosphere, driven by spaced out synths that sound as though teetering on the edge of a black hole. The-Dream’s sexually charged vocals are woven into the track periodically, acting as interludes between Kanye’s deep exploration of his moonless sonic surroundings.

West debuted the Yeezy Season 5 collection in New York City on February 15, reportedly featuring models projected onto a screen instead of a runway. At the event, Kanye unveiled the new additions to his fashion line, including denim and orange-colored Calabasas track pants.

It’s been a turbulent few months for Yeezy, who was intensely scrutinized for making a public appearance with Donald Trump shortly after his release from the hospital for exhaustion. Kanye has since deleted all of his tweets mentioning the president, and seems to finally be getting back to what we all know and love him for—creating bar-shattering beats with impeccable bravado.
