Gucci Mane has been a free man for almost exactly one year. On May 26th 2016, he was released from federal prison after serving nearly three years on gun and drug charges. Since then, he’s been on a whirlwind comeback. The once-reckless ATL legend has gotten sober, gotten married, embarked on his first national tour, and released no less than three full-length albums or mixtapes. Tomorrow, he’ll release his fourth post-prison project: the long-teased Drop Top Wop, produced exclusively by Metro Boomin.

Today, we’ve been blessed with “Hurt Feelings,” the tape’s first track, in the form of a music video. It’s a pretty simple clip, but set at Patchwerk Studios and Magic City, it showcases two key epicenters of ATL rap, namely its most acclaimed studio and its world-famous strip club. We follow Gucci and Metro as they record, switch locations in Ferraris, and subsequently toss absurd amounts of cash at dancers. Rick Ross and Young Dolph, both slated to appear on Drop Top Wop, make cameos.

Over a pillowy trap beat (the likes of which Young Metro could probably produce in his sleep by this point), Wop is in straight flex mode, with the song’s hook consisting mostly of a list of the prices of his various luxury items. His vivid, internally-rhyming descriptions, such as “darkly tinted vintage Gucci lens,” recall Ross in his most ostentatious prime, high society rap at its finest. Gucci still somehow finds time to exorcise some demons, beginning verse two with a somewhat out-of-place sentiment on the otherwise boastful track: “Found out my friends weren't really my friends/Not there through thick and thin.”

Gucci’s been through a lot in his life, so much that it often seems that he’s already lived several.  But for the past year, it’s been nothing but a victory lap.

Stay tuned for Drop Top Wop tomorrow.
