Festival season is in full effect and MERRY JANE wants to ensure that our readers are prepared for “Fuck Yeah Fest Fest (FYF Fest)” where artists from LCD Soundsystem, Tame Impala and Young Thug will perform. Kendrick Lamar is headlining Saturday festivities and after a successful year and insane Grammy's performance this is sure to be lit.
The two-day music festival will be hosted at the LA Sports Arena & Exposition Park with a night market that boasts some of the hottest food and art from all over Los Angeles. While rallies of rowdy post-punkers, low-brow artists, anarchist skaters, caustic stand-ups and all manner of other virulently anti-establishment types will be in store for a weekend of indier-than-thou amp-busting fringe culture.
This year’s FYF Fest food vendors have also been announced with popular eats such as Beer Belly and Donut Friend. While those interested in purchasing vinyl Long Beach’s own Fingerprints Music will be running an on-site record store and Echo Park’s Stories will have a curated bookstore.
FYF Fest started a little over a decade ago and it’s rise through the years was propelled by bringing some of the hottest musicians around. Some of the earliest shows were located in small venues but the shows founder, Sean Carlson, the show went on to become as popular as Coachella and EDC. Popular artist who have performed at FYF Fest include Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Strokes in previous years.
Last year’s FYF Fest had slight controversy when headliner Frank Ocean canceled his appearance just 48 hours prior to the show but the shows organizers were quick to fill the spot with Kanye West, who surprised fans by bringing out Travis Scott and Rihanna for some songs. The possibility of more artist being added to the show or making guest appearances should have fans on their feet.
