The Feud Between Drake and Kid Cudi Intensifies, Kanye West Tries to Pacify

Kanye West reached out to Cudi during his concert last night, but Drake hasn't offered an olive branch.

Anyone who follows hip-hop closely knows that this past month has been a rough onefor Cleveland-based rapper and actor Scott Mescudi (better known by the moniker Kid Cudi). After announcing that a promising 18-track album was on the way back at the start of September, Cudi found himself taking Twitter shots at his musical mentor Kanye West as well as Drake, essentially calling them both "fake rappers," prompting an agitated response from the outspoken Yeezus.

Soon after the beef started, Mescudi took to Facebook to tell his fans that he had checked himself into rehab to deal with his recent bout with depression and suicidal urges, an announcement that garnered a massive amount of support. Still, Cudi’s entrance into rehab hasn’t stopped Drizzy from taking shots back at him. In Drake’s recently released track “Two Birds One Stone”, he seems to diss Cudi for his recent mental struggles:

“You were the man on the moon, now you go through your phases/Life of the angry and famous/Rap like I know I’m the greatest and give you the tropical flavors/Still never been on hiatus/You stay xan and perked up so when reality set in you don’t gotta face it.”

The jab by Drake has been seen as a cheap shot by many, especially as it came directly after Cudi went public with his mental health issues. The Toronto-based rapper has even been spatting with Instagram commenters, responding to one user that “mans need to stop mentioning my name when they get geeked, supposed be all love out here word to my bro Pablo”. Kid Cudi’s manager, Dennis Cummings, took to Twitter to try and put Drake in his place, calling him out for having ghost writers and begging Mescudi for a feature.

On the other hand, Kanye West seems to have put the petty dispute behind him, and has recently showed support for his struggling colleague. At his “The Saint Pablo Tour” show in Inglewood, California last night, Ye gave a heartwarming shoutout to Cudi during a live performance of their joint track “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1”. Ye told the crowd, “So Cudi, he is rehab right now, but he got a #1 song on the radio & I want you to sing so he can hear it”.

At this point, with Kanye seemingly back on Cudi’s side, Drake’s disses are coming off as petty and immature, and many have clap backed at the rapper for kicking Cudi when he's down. It'll be interesting to see how this beef unfolds over the next two weeks, especially since Kanye and Drake have been hinting at a collaborative project together. Though Kid Cudi doesn’t have the mainstream popularity of Drizzy and Ye, his fanbase is one that is fiercely supportive, and likely won’t quit defending him until Drake apologizes or, at the very least, leaves him alone.
