Two of the grimiest spitters connect over some gloriously grimy production.

What do you get when you combine two of the grimiest rappers of all time over a loop of an even grimier guitar riff? We’ll let you guess.

“Notebook 00 - Negus” is the first track taken from a just-announced compilation of previously unreleased DOOM songs from hi longtime pals, Adult Swim. It’s titled The Missing Notebook Rhymes, and according to Adult Swim senior vice president Jason Demarco, its fifteen tracks will drop one-by-one on a weekly basis, “featuring all sorts of special guests.”

For his first offering, DOOM teams up with the late Brooklyn MC Sean Price, a legend in his own right. “Negus” is exactly the sort of track you’d want and expect from these two creative-but-not-flashy spitters-- basic in its two verse, no hook structure, but complex between the lines of those verses. The growling Price comes out of the gate “shootin’ at your moms” before describing himself as a “backpack rapper strapped with crack in my bookbag,” his imposing presence making it clear why he was selected as the leadoff hitter.

DOOM owns the song’s second half, and as usual, crams it with batshit non-sequiturs and head-spinning internal rhymes. One moment, he’s dropping absurd boasts like “[I’ve] gotten horse from yellin’ ‘fore!’ on a golf course,” the next, he’s stringing together bars that seem nonsensical until they too turn into absurd boasts: “Shoot the loogie, they super boujee/Gobsmack dab right cheekbone, gooey, groovy/Absolutely yucky, out your league, buddy/Before you take a stab at it, think deep and study”

Technically, “Notebook 00 - Negus” is credited as “Sean Price Featuring DOOM,” and in addition to appearing on The Missing Notebook, it’ll also appear on a posthumous Price release Imperious Rex, according to Pitchfork.

Stay tuned for upcoming DOOM tracks every Monday—an Adult Swim collaboration with similarly-reclusive rapper Jay Electronica is also rumored to be on the way…
