There’s no denying that Wes Kremer has been the unofficial face of the Sk8Mafia squad for some time now. Winning Thrasher’s Skater of the Year in 2014 and dropping a handful of mind-melting parts since has kept the SoCal stoner squarely on skateboarding’s A-list for the past few years. But like all great leaders, a good apprentice is necessary to keep the light alive, backing up Wes and carrying the torch for the rest of the homies. In the brand new Sk8mafia x DC “Way Of Life” edit, Kremer’s partner in shred goes by the name of Alexis Ramirez, a rail-crunching machine with nothing short of magnetic feet.
Filmed by Dan Connelly, “Way of Life” is a double-down that doesn’t disappoint. The first half of the three-minute edit begins with lines and ledge work at its absolute best. Watching Wes and Alexis go to work on flatground is a pleasure, especially considering their skill in every other facet of skating. To push that point, the rails, stairs and hammers come during the second half of the edit, where you’ll catch body variations happening mid-grind, stair set bangers, and wall rides Aladdin’s magic carpet would be proud of.
Kremer and Ramirez prove their place as one of skateboarding’s most formidable duos, and it doesn’t hurt that the expert shredding is backed by the sounds of West Coast hip-hop legends Heiroglyphics’ “Livin’ It Up” and Del The Funky Homosapien’s “I’m Gonna Make It”.
