In the eight years under the name of Thee Oh Sees, the San Francisco-based garage rock group has released an impressive eleven studio albums. Their latest, A Weird Exits, was released this month through Castle Face Records, and proves that the John Dwyer-led band still has a heavy-hitting psychedelic soul. Though the group has undergone more than a few lineup changes throughout the years, frontman John Dwyer has been shredding on guitar and singing his heart out since 1997, solidifying himself as one of the psychedelic indie rock pioneer of our generation. Currently playing alongside bassist Tim Hellman and two drummers, Ryan Moutinho and Dan Rincon, this album is the first where the band features two musicians behind the drum set.
After releasing the singles “Plastic Plant” and “The Axis”, Thee Oh Sees decided to stream their new record on Soundcloud, giving their fans a sneak peek of what could be the most psychedelic record of the summer. On “Plastic Plant”, Thee Oh Sees layer crisp guitar upon the power of their drumming duo, creating a sound that will amplify you out of your own mind.
Following up from last year’s release Mutilator Defeated at Last, the latest from Thee Oh Sees is everything you’d expect from the band and more, featuring quick-witted and beautifully distorted guitar work, rambunctious dueling drums, and an altogether powerful journey through the spontaneous terrain of psychedelic rock.
