Speaking at the Adobe Max Conference in San Diego, Quentin Tarantino said that he'll only direct a totalt of ten films before retiring. With eight feature films under his belt, we can expect two more gems from Tarantino before he retires from his illustrious career.
Much of the graphic realism that you've come to love in film and on the silver screen is partly due to the pioneering work of filmmakers in the '90s, Tarantino being one of the most influential. "Drop the mic. Boom. Tell everybody, 'Match that shit,'" Tarantino said Thursday at the San Diego Convention Center. It is truly hard to believe that the 53 year old Tarantino's far-reaching and influential directing career is based on only eight feature films.
Most fans have a tough time picking a favorite Tarantino film- between Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and Jackie Brown (to only name three of his films) it's an incredibly hard choice. Tarantino's model for creating unforgettable films works well with excessive and stylized violence, although he's admitted that he thinks he may have “over-tweaked” the film Death Proof. He's also collaborated plenty with his pal Robert Rodriguez on films such as Dusk til Dawn or Sin City.
Strangely, his film career initially began in adult film including working at the Pussycat Theater in Torrance, California."Hopefully, the way I define success when I finish my career is that I'm considered one of the greatest filmmakers that ever lived. And going further, a great artist, not just filmmaker," he said.
Tarantino's next film is set in Australia during the 1930's and will be a “Bonnie & Clyde-esque tale.” The next project will be deeply involved with the year 1970, a year he says was a turning point for cinema. "It could be a book, a documentary, a five-part podcast," Tarantino said, referring to his final project. Whatever it happens to be, let's hope that it closes out his legacy appropriately.
