You will most likely know Zack De La Rocha as the snarling frontman of the politically charged Rage Against The Machine. While the band broke up in 2000 (and reunited for a few years in 2007), De La Rocha has been mostly quiet since then.

On Thursday, Zach broke his relative silence, dropping “Digging For Windows,” his first solo release in over 10 years. All of his trademark energy and anger remain intact, warning us of a bleak future “where the days are all night.”

This time, however, instead of rhyming over layer and layers of loud distorted guitars, Zack rides over a droning bassline of doom, supplied by none other than El-P. The two had already previously collaborated to great effect when De La Rocha featured on “Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck)” on Run The Jewels 2.

A solo album is forthcoming, but no release date or album title has yet been unveiled. In the meantime, you can listen to and download (for free!) “Digging For Windows” here. Whether you’re a hip-hop head or former Rage enthusiast, you won’t be disappointed.
