The latest trailer for the new Rogue One movie, the first stand-alone Star Wars film, has been released and is packed with intense battles and even a rare glimpse of Sith Lord Darth Vader. The trailer opens up with the young heroine Jyn Erso (played by Felicity Jones) and her father Galen Erso (played by Mads Mikkelsen) digging into their past. Galen is taken away by the empire but not before a fierce stare down senures. Galen is the man responsible for the creation of the Empires deadliest weapon, the Death Star.

Fast forward to the future and Jyn finds herself being rescued from her prison cell. The rebellion believes that becasue her father was an integral to the Death Star’s creation that Jyn is the key to finding him. With the help of the rebel alliance Jyn sets of to secure the plans for the Death Star but also rescue, and ultimately redeem her father.

The meaning behind the title “Rogue One” is also revealed in the trailer. When K-2SO says, “They [the Empire] are requesting a call sign,” Bodhi (played by Riz Ahmed) replies "It's rogue … rogue one." In one of the final scenes you get a quick peak of Darth Vader as he prepares for battle with the rebellion. 

 

The film also stars Ben Mendelsohn, Alan Tudyk, Warwick Davis, Forest Whitaker and Diego Luna. Rogue One is set for a theatrical release on Dec. 16.
