Earlier this week, many diehard fans of the Chicago-based producer and rapper Kanye West were disheartened to hear that the remaining dates for his highly regarded Saint Pablo Tour had been cancelled. It had been an overall rough week for Ye, who has received an enormous amount of backlash for ending a number of shows abruptly early, claiming his support for Donald Trump, and ranting about his deteriorating relationship with Jay Z and Beyonce.

Shortly after the tour cancellation was announced, it was announced that West had been hospitalized “for his own health and safety”. According to The New York Times, Ye is currently being treated for exhaustion after his doctor called Los Angeles police on him for acting irrationally at his trainer Harley Pasternak’s house yesterday afternoon. TMZ reports that Kanye was handcuffed by police and taken for a “psychiatric examination” from the staff at the UCLA Medical Center.

The recent news of Kanye’s hospitalization has brought an outpour of support from other rappers and celebrities close with the struggling superstar. Earlier this morning on BBC Radio, Chance the Rapper sent prayers and love to who he calls he “big brother”. Renowned producer and record executive 9th Wonder also voiced support for his longtime friend, stating that he’d “been knowing the brother upwards of 13 years. Mental healing is a serious thing, no matter what. Stay strong Kanye West.”

At the time of Kanye’s hospitalization, his wife Kim Kardashian was attending at a charity gala in New York City, her first public appearance since being robbed at gunpoint in Paris last month. She was seen returning back to Los Angeles upon hearing the news about her husband. Most sources close to Kanye West are claiming that this mental lapse has stemmed from exhaustion from the Saint Pablo Tour, which has run throughout North America since August.

Although Yeezus has always been an outspoken individual known for his controversial statements, it’s clear from the last couple of weeks that the renowned producer and rapper is struggling deeply with some mental issues. Regardless of what you think of his opinions, we can only hope that Kanye gets the help he needs so that he can return to doing what he does best: making ingenious hip hop tracks and putting on life-altering live shows.
