When hip-hop fans think about the star-studded roster on the renowned label Top Dawg Entertainment, their minds usually wander to the lyrical genius of Kendrick Lamar, the rambunctious gang-banger Schoolboy Q, or the third-eye opening rhymes from Ab-Soul.

But, the up-and-coming Tennessee-based rapper Isaiah Rashad has been hot on their tail ever since dropping his acclaimed debut 2014 EP, Cilvia Demo, which has helped put the young TDE artist on the map.

Up until this last weekend, the year had been a pretty quiet one for Rashad. After having released the single “Smile” back in January, the rapper has been out of the public eye, potentially working on his studio debut album.

Now, with his latest single “Free Lunch”, Isaiah Rashad has all but confirmed that his next project will be coming soon.

In his latest track, Rashad places his smooth Southern flow over a jazzy beat that sounds fit for Kendrick Lamar’s critically acclaimed To Pimp a Butterfly. The new song was released via Apple Music, and features Rashad’s witty wordplay and unique lyrical content, which pays ode to other classic tracks throughout.

“Phil hit me back, filled this one with a powder pack/Pill bring me back, feel this one out in California,” Rashad rhymes in “Free Lunch”.

All in all, the outcome is a silky smooth single that is sure to increase the hype for Rashad’s upcoming project, which could actually be dropping this coming September.

This past week, TDE co-president Dave Free vaguely tweeted out the date  “09.02.16”, which could be hinting at the possible debut from Rashad, or even a new project from one of his fellow labelmates, such as Ab-Soul or SZA.

But, with the close proximity or the new single and obscure tweet, there’s a pretty decent chance the co-president was referring to Rashad’s upcoming album. Until we know more about Rashad’s forthcoming project, you can sit back, light up, and listen to the up-and-coming rapper’s latest snazzy track, which is sure to be one of the chillest songs of this summer.
