Holy skates! 2017 is off to an incredible start for skateboarding. Adding to the already eye-popping beginning of the New Year’s mix is DGK’s latest full-length, “Saved.”
Just as the title suggests, the video focuses on street skateboarding from a very evangelical perspective, featuring voice-overs and other elements that highlight the spiritually street nature of the culture. DGK’s newest addition Quel Haddox opens the video, while seasoned vets like Josh Kalis and Stevie Williams sprinkle some OG magic into the squad montage. The rest of the team and extended family holds down everything else in between.
Parts to keep an eye out for include Boo Johnson and Derrick Wilson’s hard-hitting tag team segment, Dane Vaughn’s Cajun bad-assery, Marquise Henry’s blue-collared technical mastery, and a high-flying ender from Richie Chavez and Maurice Jordan.
The video’s soundtrack also fits perfectly with the street’s disciple theme as tracks from the likes of Outkast, Jadakiss, ScHoolboy Q, Gunplay, Travis Scott, and more keep the vibes raw and energetic. Though 15 minutes in length, the editing and level of skateboarding keep “Saved” as interesting and sharp as ever.
Churchgoer or not, viewers won’t be falling asleep to this sermon.
