At this juncture in time, De La Soul can undoubtedly be considered legends of the hip-hop game, with undeniable classics under their belt such as 3 Feet High and Rising, Stakes is High and The Grind Date.
However, it wasn’t always the case, as the Amityville, Long Island trio weren’t always as well received with their left field fashion and their “D.A.I.S.Y Age” (Da Inner Sound Y’all!) philosophy, and were pegged as hippies by many hip-hop fans.
The documentary (whose title is a play on words of their second album De La Soul Is Dead) brought to us by Mass Appeal, is set not only to give us an insight into De La Soul’s rich history and revered catalogue, but will also explore sample clearance issues that have prevented some of De La’s Discography from being available on major streaming platforms.
