Comedian and Actor Ricky Harris Passes Away at 54

Ricky Harris, best known for his standup comedy and role in the classic film "Heat", was a close friend and colleague of Snoop Dogg.

Earlier this week, it was announced that comedian and actor Ricky Harris, best recognized from his role in the classic heist film Heat and as a prolific standup comic in the '90s, has passed away at the age of 54. 

The death was confirmed on Monday by his manager Cindy Ambers, who declared that the official cause of death was a heart attack. She also shared details about a massive a heart attack that the comedian suffered two years ago, alluding that he had been suffering from health problems for some time. Harris helped set the stage for African-American comedians and actors in the '90s, and was also a dear friend and colleague of Snoop Dogg, both of whom hail from Long Beach, California.

During The Doggfather’s time with Death Row Records , Harris stole the spotlight on a number of comedic skits on Snoop's most legendary albums, and has also shown up in a number of music videos, including “Doggy Dogg World”. In addition, Harris also acted alongside Snoop in the 2001 horror film Bones. After hearing the sad news, Snoop Dogg turned to Instagram to share some photos and videos of his favorite moments with Harris. 

  In the first Instagram video, Snoop Dogg states:

“Well y’all, I lost one of my dear friends today: Ricky Harris. A lot of y’all may know him as a comedian, but he was a real dear friend of mine. Ricky Harris, rest in peace. Long Beach original.”

Aside from his memorable role alongside Al Pacino in the Michael Mann-directed Heat, Harris was a regular standup comedian on Def Comedy Jam, sharing the stage with other renowned African-American comics like Chris Rock and Chris Tucker. The multi-talented artist’s first onscreen role was in the movie Poetic Justice, where he starred alongside Tupac Shakur and Janet Jackson. Additionally, Harris recently appeared in the Sundance film Dope, as well as in television shows Everybody Hates Chris and Moesha
