In this day and age of shortened attention spans, there aren’t too many artists that keep you interested without resorting to cheap tricks and slick editing. Luckily for us, however, Natasha Khan, a.k.a. Bat For Lashes, is one of those rare artists.
She absolutely captivates In her new video for “Joe’s Dream,” off her July released conceptual album The Bride, the gloomy premise of which is a woman honeymooning alone after the death of her fiance en route to the wedding. She is the sole human presence, and the majority of the video focuses on her singing and strumming her Stratocaster at what appears to be the softly lit altar of a church, presumably where her The Bride character was meant to be married before tragedy befell her.
The fact that the video is as entrancing as it for a song so slow and moody (lasting almost 6 minutes) is all the more credit to Khan’s presence and power. It doesn’t hurt that she looks absolutely bewitching, her clothes and makeup reminiscent of 60s mod fashion.
