Being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is an honor reserved for music’s elite. The committee chooses talented musicians who were influential in their career, not necessarily if they contributed solely to the rock genre.

The ballot of nominees for the 2017 class has been announced, and one notable name on the list is Tupac Shakur. Other potential inductees include Janet Jackson, Pearl Jam, Bad Brains, Chaka Khan, The Cars, and Depeche Mode among others.

If you’re wondering why some of your favorite rappers are noticeably absent, it’s because of the induction process. In order to be considered, an artist has to have released their debut album 25 years from the induction year. So sorry guys, no Biggie this year.

Even though Makaveli is probably a shoe-in for induction this year, you can head to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s site to cast your vote’s for this year’s nominees.
