This Is the Most Dangerous Place to Smoke Weed in NYC

Stay away from the 105th Precinct.

Published on March 17, 2017

If you’re the type to get even just a little paranoid when you light up, we recommend you stay as far as you can from the NYPD’s 105th Precinct in Queens.

In a report featured in the NY Post last month, the 105th Precinct—comprised of Queens Village, Cambria Heights, Laurelton, Rosedale, Springfield Gardens, Bellerose, Glen Oaks, New Hyde Park and Floral Park—has earned the rep as being the toughest place to smoke weed in NYC.

Of course, this didn’t happen overnight: over the last decade, residents of the Queens-Nassau border neighborhoods have received the most pot summonses in all of New York City. In 2016 alone, police ticketed citizens to the tune of 1,851 times for pot possession, which is 9 percent of NYC's total marijuana summonses.

So, what the hell is going on? Is it something as simple as there being an extraordinary amount of stoners along the Queens-Nassau border? Is it just an easier for cops to bust them? Not likely.

We have a few guesses, but there hasn’t been much clarification as to what’s spurring the crackdown. However, it seems officers might be earning some extra credit at the station for dishing out these summonses thanks to one top cop at the precinct—Lt. Michael Lauterborn.
