"The Killing of a Sacred Deer" Trailer Turns Up The Creep Factor

A24 has finally released a second trailer for the divisive 2017 Cannes Film Festival film "The Killing of a Sacred Deer."

Directed by The Lobsters Yorgos Lanthimos, The Killing of the Sacred Deer is a psychological revenge thriller in every sense of those three words.

Some reviewers have praised it; The Killing Of The Sacred Deer shared the Best Screenplay award with Lynne Ramsay's You Were Never Really Here at Cannes, while others found it chock full of vile vengeance that they find (though beautifully shot and composed) to be nothing short of pure sadism.

Colin Farrell plays a successful surgeon who invites a young boy named Martin, a son of one of his patient (played by Dunkirk’s Barry Keoghan) into his family. Farrell’s wife (played by Nicole Kidman) begins to suspect that Martin has something to do with their childrens’ (Raffey Cassidy and Sunny Suljic) sudden illness — and this is the basis for the movie.

In the trailer, Martin even apologizes that he’s sorry about Bob’s (Suljic) sudden paralysis, and when the good doctor says that it’s nothing serious, the weird teenagers says, “No, it is. They will all get sick and die. Bob will die. Kim will die. Your wife will die. Understand?”

This should definitely sound a person’s warning bells, right?

Thankfully, the trailer doesn’t divulge if Martin is somehow causing the illness that is destroying the family, or if it’s just a perfectly timed happenstance. Otherwise, it wouldn't be much of a surprise.

It’s best not to know much when walking into a horror or mystery movie, but with a backer like A24, who have produced some fantastically dark movies in the past few years, The Witch, Ex Machina, and Under the Skin to name just a few, it is probably safe to say that this will be quite the theatrical performance.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer also stars Alicia Silverstone and Bill Camp, and will hit theaters on October 20.
