Could A Small 250-Acre Oregon Town Become the Next Cannabis Haven?

The entire town of Tiller, Oregon is for sale, and the realtor’s phone has been blowing up with interest from the cannabis industry.

Tiller, Oregon is an idyllic riverside town. It’s bordered by national parks, with abundant resources and enough infrastructure to support a handful of residents. It also happens to be for sale, and while it will most likely be turned into a housing development of some sort - the 256-acre plot of multi-use land is also getting plentiful interest from the cannabis industry.

According to LandLeader (the website listing the sale) Tiller’s acreage on the banks of the South Umpqua River is zoned for commercial, residential, agricultural, industrial, and farm forest use. Seven homes currently stand, as well as an elementary school, and a non-operating general store. All of those amenities, offered alongside water and mineral rights, are being sold as a package deal for a cool $3.85 million. Unsurprisingly, this has led to significant interest from cannabis entrepreneurs.

Tim O’Neill, the listing agent trying to sell Tiller, told SFGate that he’s been inundated with calls from marijuana industry insiders looking into purchasing the land.

"I don't know how they'd do it," O'Neill said, "but I know they're interested."

And while O’Neill might not have a vision for how canna-preneurs would use the land, we’ve got a few ideas. Based the variety of land types and resources available, we’re thinking that Tiller is ripe for the world’s first cannabis theme-town. There could be weed restaurants, hotels, rides and activities - think Disneyland but for ganja!

All jokes aside, even if Tiller doesn’t turn into a weed theme-town, it could potentially house some incredible grow sites and cultivation facilities.

For now, the town is still for sale. But if you’ve got a spare $4 million laying around and want to make our dreams of a stoner paradise come true, please put down a down payment and take Tiller off the market - we’re already drawing up blueprints for the weed-leaf shaped Ferris wheel.
