Border Cops Seize 2 Tons of Weed Disguised as Limes

Imagine the time it takes to make 35,000 lime-sized packages of pot…

US Customs and Border Protection officers seized nearly two tons of marijuana disguised as limes in a shipment of produce crossing the border from Mexico to Texas. The pot was packed into 34,674 tiny green packages designed to blend in with real limes. The fake limes didn't fool customs officials, however, who were able to identify the contraband using an imaging inspection system and drug-sniffing dogs.

In total, the lime-sized packages contained a total of 3,947 pounds of weed, valued at $789,467. Customs officials have been on the watch for weed disguised as produce after agents found nearly 2,500 pounds of pot stuffed into fake carrots at the same border crossing last year.

"This is an outstanding interception of narcotics,” Port Director Efrain Solis Jr. said in a statement. “Our CBP officers continue to excel in their knowledge of smuggling techniques, which allows them to intercept these kinds of attempts to introduce narcotics into our country." The case is currently being investigated by the Department of Homeland Security.
