R&B sing Kehlani took the time earlier this year to hold over fans of her music with two joints titled "CRZY" and "Distraction." The response has been so strong that the singer took the time to let her fans know that she is releasing her debut album SweetSexySavage on January 27, 2017. From that album, she debuted the track "Advice" via Apple Music and gave some insight into the song's meaning.

While speaking to Carl Cherry on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Radio show, she said "I was just out of a really bad relationship with someone who I really thought who was going to be like the one person for me and ended up showing me so many times that they weren't. I realized there’s a bunch of girls who are going through the same thing and they needed to hear from somebody…It was really like, a healing thing rather than us just making a song."

When asked what fans can expect from her debut album, Kehlani made sure to note that there was a major growth from her mixtape You Should Be Here, saying, "you can expect a lot of really fun vibes. It's a lot bigger I think," she said of the album. "I'm really proud of the growth that it's taken. It's a lot of fun. It's a lot of inspiration. It's a lot of making you feel good about yourself. A lot of self-acceptance. So that's really the basis of this album."
