In today’s era of hip hop, you’d be hard-pressed to find many rappers who are more influential than Drake and Gucci Mane. According to the esteemed trap producer Zaytoven, who has been one of Gucci’s go-to beatmakers for years, Drake and Big Guwop are already in the midst of creating a collaborative EP entitled The 6ers. The conjoining of those two monumental names should be enough to get any fan of hip hop hyped, but if you need more proof that this release will leave the rap game in flames, we’ve got five of them.
Two Different 6s Cut From the Same Cloth
If you were wondering how the dynamic duo came up with the name The 6ers, just take a quick look from where they come from. Gucci Mane has always repped Zone 6, the section of Atlanta that he hails from. Meanwhile, up in Toronto, Drake is constantly boasting his nickname for his hometown, “The Six”. Drake explained the numbered alias for his city on Jimmy Fallon, claiming it was inspired from their “416” area code, along with the fact that Toronto was once broken up into six different areas.
Gucci and Drake Have Already Proven to be a Lethal Combination
Once Gucci Mane got released from prison, Drake was one of the first artists to hop on a track with Guwop, a triumphant song called “Back On Road”. The song was featured on Gucci’s highly anticipated album Everybody’s Looking, his first release fresh out of prison. Anyone who’s listened to the track knows how well Gucci’s heavy flow meshes with Drake’s smoothly placed hook.
Zaytoven and Mike WiLL Made-It Are Producing It
According to his interview with VladTV, Zaytoven claims that both he and fellow trap king Mike WiLL Made-It will produce feature at least a couple of tracks on the collaborative effort. Zaytoven has been busy working on a new sequel to his debut movie Birds of a Feather, as well as with rappers like Future and Lil Uzi Vert, but rest assured that you’ll hear his and Mike WiLL’s top-notch production on a couple of the EP’s tracks.
They’ve Already Laid Down Tracks for the Hype Train
Get ready. The hype is real. Drizzy and Guwop are joining forces and coming soon to speaker near you. When Drake showed up on the set of the music video shoot for Gucci’s song “Home”, the two instantly sparked up the idea of doing the joint EP. In fact, according to Zaytoven, Drake and Gucci Mane started recording songs that very same day. Zaytoven has confirmed at least two songs that will for sure make it onto the project.
It’ll Probably Come Out Sooner Than You Think
Knowing Gucci Mane’s insane musical output, even when he was holed up in prison, it’s safe to assume that the two artists will get this EP done and get it done quickly. In 2015 alone, Gucci released a staggering eleven mixtapes while serving time in the United States Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana on a firearms felony. Drake is no slouch either, and aside from constantly touring the world, the Toronto rapper recently dropped his album Views, along with a collaboration with Future called What a Time To Be Alive, which came out in September 2015.
