If you know anything about the mysterious electronic band Gorillaz, you know they’re not one to just release an album and call it a day. The elusive digital band, which was started in 1998 by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and comic book artist Jamie Hewlett, has been quite elusive over the past couple of years. The critically acclaimed duo hasn’t made a peep of music since Plastic Beach and The Fall, which were released in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

But it looks as if new music is definitely on the way, as Gorillaz' social media accounts have been sharing a number of short multimedia stories for each of the band’s four digital members. Thus far, the electronic band has released a series of videos for cartoon members Russell Hobbs (drums) and Noodle (guitar and keys), and have now just granted us with “The Book of Murdoc”.

The visual story takes us through the escape of Murdoc from the Plastic Beach, which has been overtaken by pirates. As he and Noodle escape on a brown submarine, they get caputred by the gigantic "Battleship Ringo", a ship owned by their record label EMI. After capturing Murdoc and locking him up in Dungeon Abbey, the record label offers him his freedom and a carton of cigarettes in exhange for another album.

We've got the entire multimedia tale laid out for you below, and you can also check out “The Book of Noodle” and “The Book of Russell” on the Gorillaz social media accounts. In their typical creative and mysterious humor, the legendary group has used this storyline to prepare fans for a new album, which is expected to drop sometime in 2017. Until then, you can follow the journey of the greatest cartoon band on Earth. Lead singer 2D is expected to get his own "book" next.
