In the past month, news has been flying around the cannabis industry about residual pesticides, mold and other contaminants running rampant in unregulated medical marijuana. And as California joins Colorado, Washington, and the handful of other states with adult recreational marijuana industries, one company is making sure that weed is both safe for customers, and profitable for cultivators.

According to Yahoo Finance, CW Analytical Laboratory of Oakland, CA announced that their testing process will now be able to detect up to 55 toxic chemical residues “at a parts-per-billion level using triple quadruple mass spectrometry technology.”

The testing will allow California cultivators to know where they stand as the state finalizes their recreational regulations. In addition to helping growers get to market with safe product, CW Analytical will also sell micro-extraction tests for concentrate producers - giving them the ability to test the trim or flowers they use before extracting the plant’s oils.

"This method allows us to detect these harmful compounds with unprecedented certainty and sensitivity," said David Egerton, Vice President of Technical Operations at CW Analytical. "As LC-MS/MS technology is a highly selective technique, previous instrument-based limitations regarding false positives can be considered a thing of the past."

As California prepares for the transition to recreational legalization and a much larger cannabis industry, CW says that they will not only test for pesticide residue, but also counsel customers on ways they can transition their operations into organic grows.

"CW Analytical remains committed to the health of Cannabis consumers and the future success of California Cannabis businesses," said CW co-founder Robert Martin. "Ultimately, this will ensure California's leadership role in the emerging global Cannabis industry."

California regulations will arrive in tandem with the 2018 roll-out of recreational sales. Cannabis testing, for botjh toxins and potency, will become even bigger business. With their new method, CW Laboratory is looking to set the trend in safe cannabis.
