When you’re in the mood to lounge back on the couch, roll one up, and watch a kickass action film, there’s no better actor's filmography to dive into than Keanu Reeves, the most calm and nonchalant action movie star of all-time. From his role as Neo in The Matrix saga to the frantic bus driving SWAT officer in Speed, and of course as the surfing/skydiving/ bank robbing undercover FBI agent Johnny Utah in the cult classic Point Break the well-established actor has constantly kept us at the edge of our seats.

One of his more recent films, the 2014 neo-noir action thriller John Wick, showcased Keanu doing what he does best; kicking ass and taking names. The movie, written by Derek Kolstad and directed by Chad Stahelski, follows Reeves’ retired hitman character as he avenges the theft of his car and killing of his puppy by a Russian crime syndicate. The film has already become a classic for fans of unrealistic "shoot-em-up" cinema, and now, John Wick is returning to the big screen in a sequel.

The sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2, will follow Keanu’s character through the underworld of Rome just four days after recovering from the wounds inflicted on him during the first film. A new trailer has finally been unveiled, which features a brand new mix of assassins that Wick must either join forces with or kill. Reeves will be joined by legendary hip hop artist Common, Ian McShane, Ruby Rose, and the one and only Laurence Fishburne, famously known for playing the role of Morpheus in The Matrix saga.

The rekindling of Reeves and Fishburne’s on-screen adventures are more than just a mere coincidence. In fact, actor and director Stahelski began working on the concept for John Wick 17 years ago, when The Matrix was still in production. According to Reeves, Fishburne approached him at a party to compliment the first John Wick film, and expressed interest in taking part in the sequel if the possibility ever arose.

"When we started writing the film, it was on the set of The Matrix and so the role that he has in the movie was intentionally written with him in mind as the character," Stahelski said. "We don’t want people thinking we wrote him in at the last minute. This is something we have wanted to see happen for years."

Although we know that Neo and Morpheus will finally reunite as different characters in the upcoming sequel, little else is known about Fishburne’s role, leaving room for fans to suspect a Matrix link at some point. What we do know for sure, is that John Wick will go toe-to-toe with some seriously skilled assassins. The possibility of a Matrix link is enough to get fans in a tizzy on the forthcoming film, which will hit theaters February 10, 2017.
