Girl Scout Troop Beats San Francisco Dispensary in Fundraising Challenge

Girl Scout cookies and weed – together again.

A troop of Girl Scouts challenged a local San Francisco marijuana dispensary to a fundraising challenge, and beat them hands down. The fundraiser was held on behalf of the “K2C” Kindergarten to College organization, which creates small savings accounts to seed college funds for every child entering kindergarten in the city.

The Girl Scouts team, calling themselves the “The Troopers,” bet the Apothecarium medical marijuana dispensary that they could raise more money for K2C than the dispensary could. The Troopers' experience with cookie sales obviously paid off, as the girls were able to gather nearly $400 in donations, while the Apothecarium was barely able to top $100.

“It was a great experience for me to bring my girls in front of a dispensary and have that conversation about drugs and people may be different and have certain needs,” troop mother Carol Lei said. Eliot Dobris, spokesman for the Apothecarium, said that the contest was “a strong demonstration that dispensaries are safe places.”

As the loser of the bet, the Apothecarium must provide fresh-baked cookies to the Troopers. But of course, since the Girl Scouts are all minors, these cookies will be cannabis-free.
